Order on Khaleda Zia’s bail pleas Wednesday
Dhaka: The High Court will deliver its order on a bail petition filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a murder case filed over the arson attack on a bus in Cumilla that killed eight people in 2015.
A bench of Justice AK M Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman fixed the date on Monday.
On May 28, HC granted a six-month bail to Khaleda in two violence cases filed against her in Cumilla.
Later, the state filed a leave-to-appeal petition with Appellate Division against the bail orders on July 2 while the court stayed the bail.
Besides, the Supreme Court asked the HC to dispose of the matter of maintainability of Khaleda’s bail application.
After hearing the acceptability of the bail petition, the HC set Wednesday for passing an order, said Khaleda’s lawyer AKM EhsanurRahman.
Eight people were killed and 20 others injured when miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram of Cumilla district during the BNP-led alliance’s movement on February 3, 2015.
Two cases were filed in this connection against Khaleda.
On February 8 last, Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
