CEC happy over city elections
Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Monday expressed his satisfaction as elections to three city elections—Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet- were largely peaceful.
‘The voting in all the 138 polling stations was held in a peaceful manner in Rajshahi. In Sylhet, it was peaceful as well except in two polling stations out of 134. It was also largely peaceful in Barishal other than some stray incidents in the morning,’ he said.
The CEC said this at his post-election briefing at Nirbachon Bhaban in the city.
‘Yes, I’m happy,’ said KM Nurul Huda replying to a question whether he was satisfied with the three city elections.
About the overall election, he said, ‘The election was held in a good manner. There were some problems in Barishal. We’ve suspended election results in 15 polling stations after receiving information of anomalies through returning officers.’
He said election in another polling station in Barishal was cancelled due to anomalies.
‘We’ll take necessary measures following investigation into anomalies,’ he said adding that the Election Commission did not expect such irregularities in the city elections.
The CEC said there had been no anomaly in Rajshahi as election in no polling station was suspended.
