‘Cops, BCL’ attack journo for capturing vote rigging in Sylhet
Sylhet: Police and members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Monday attacked a journalist while he was taking photos of vote rigging at Darga Jalajia Primary School center in Ward No. 1 of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC).
The injured Misbah Uddin is Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) correspondent of the daily Prothom Alo, reports the UNB.
The victim said some members of the ruling party-backed BCL were casting fake votes at the center around 2:45 pm.
While he was taking picture of the incident, the BCL men snatched away his cell phone and police led by sub-inspector Nur Mohammad beat him brutally, said Misbah.
BCL men also took part in the attack fracturing the right part of his back and shoulder.
Later, the BCL men removed the pictures of vote rigging from Misbah’s phone and returned it.
Misbah was taken to M.A.G. Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station Mosarraf Hossain said legal steps will be taken after investigating the matter.
