BNP describes attacks on students as cowardly ones
Dhaka: BNP on Saturday night described the attacks on demonstrating students at different parts of the capital, including Jigatola, as cowardly ones, and blamed the ruling party ‘cadres’ for that.
Speaking at an emergency press conference at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also alleged that the government is spreading lies by involving BNP with the student movement to divert it to a different direction, reports the UNB.
‘A series of attacks on students at different spots, including Mirpur and Jigatola, were made since noon. Awami League cadres badly injured many agitating students through their in human attacks. We strongly denounce and protest the cowardly attacks,’ he said.
The BNP leader said the students alleged that Chhatra League’s armed cadres coming out of Awami League’s Dhanmondi office swopped on the students. ‘As per their premeditated plan, the terrorists wore helmets and attacked students with arms and sharp weapons, leaving many of them injured.’
He said they also got information that many students were seriously injured as the attackers spread bullets on them during the attacks.
Fakhrul said the students have been on the movement for the last few days demanding safety of their lives on roads.
He said Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader made remarks involving BNP with the agitation only to divert the students justified movement to a different direction. ‘We condemn it.’
The BNP leader said their party extended its support to the students’ reasonable movement. ‘We never encouraged terrors acts and won’t do this in the future as well. But the ruling party cadres launched the attacks on the students like terrorists.’
He called upon people to be vocal against the government’s such attitude.
