Dhaka: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday directed the principals of government and private colleges of Dhaka to convince their students to vacate roads and return to their classes at any cost.

The minister came up with the direction during a meeting with the principals of colleges around 3 pm at International Mother Language Institute.

‘The chiefs of educational institutes will be accountable for the movement of students. They have to take steps from their own positions and figure out how to convince and take the students back from the streets to the class room’, he said.

‘Otherwise they (teachers) have to take the responsibility of everything. The government will monitor their efforts to bring back the protesting students to their class rooms’, he said. 
Referring to the protesting students, Nahid said ‘The government has accepted their nine-point demand, they have achieved victory and now to sustain their victory they should return to their classes. The current situation can’t be tolerated at any cost.’   

‘If the movement runs for long many vested groups may instigate it to other directions. Rumors may be spread and anarchy may occur’, he said.

The minister also sat with the head masters of different schools in this regard.

Students of different schools and colleges have been staging demonstrations for the last eight days demanding punishment of those responsible for July 29 road accident that killed their two fellows in the city.
