Dhaka: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday alleged that BNP spread rumours through uploading videos on social media over the student movement demanding safe roads.

‘BNP is behind spreading rumours over the student movement. It’s a dangerous political party in disguise,’ he said while talking to reporters after attending a discussion at the Secretariat marking the death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports the UNB.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said the protesting students returned to classes responding to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

‘Though BNP provoked the quota reform and safe-road movements, they failed to cash in on those. However, their conspiracy is not still over. It’s evident that fake students carried stones, machetes, knives and firearms. Fake identity cards and school uniforms were made to implement the conspiracy,’ he added.

About BNP’s call for dialogue, Quader said actually, the party has no intention to hold talks. ‘They don’t want dialogue….they want conflicts.’

Asked about BNP leader Moudud Ahmed’s remarks about democracy, he said, ‘They talk about democracy but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina strengthened it in practice. Talking about democracy doesn’t suit them.’
