SC rejects plea against HC order on sending Shahidul to BSMMU
Dhaka: The Appellate Division on Monday rejected a petition seeking stay on the High Court order that asked the authorities concerned to send Drik Gallery MD Shahidul Alam to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for treatment.
A four-member bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, rejected the petition as ‘being not pressed’, reports the UNB.
Earlier on August 7, the High Court asked the authorities concerned to send Shahidul to BSMMU as soon as possible for his medical treatment and form a medical board to examine his health and submit a report on his health condition on August 9.
Following the order, the report on his health was submitted to the court on Thursday last.
On August 6, a Dhaka court placed Shahidul Alam on a seven-day remand for interrogation in a case filed under the ICT Act.
Detectives detained Shahidul Alam, also Chairman of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, from his Dhanmondi residence at night on August 5 following his Facebook posts on the recent student movement.
