Dhaka: The High Court on Tuesday set October 7 for delivering its verdict after re-hearing on the appeal filed by Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya against a lower court order that had sentenced him for 13 years jail in a graft case.

A bench of Justice Md Nazrul Isalm Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam fixed the date after concluding the re-hearing on his appeal.

On June 13, 2007, Assistant Director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Nurul Alam filed the case with Sutrapur Police Station for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 29 lakh.

A Special Judges Court on February 14, 2008, sentenced Maya to 13 years jail and also fined him Tk 5 crore over the wealth accumulation.

Meanwhile, Maya filed an appeal on May 25, 2009, with High Court and the HC cancelled the sentence of the Awami League leader on October 27, 2010.

Later, on June 14, 2015, a three-member bench of Appellate Division led by former Chief Justice SK Sinha cancelled the HC order acquitting the ruling party leader from the graft charges and ordered to re-hear his appeal.
