Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday presented a cow for Qurbani to the hijra community members in Jamalpur Sadar upazila.

The Prime Minister presented the cow worth Tk 1 lakh after they sent a message to her mobile phone seeking a cow, reports the UNB.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ahmed Kabir handed over the cow to the hijra community, said PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokan.

Khokan said Sheikh Hasina received an SMS in her mobile phone around 8:30am on Monday from a hijra member introducing as Mayuri.

The Hijra member sought a cow from the Prime Minister for Qurbani on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Sheikh Hasina directed her Private Secretary M Tofazzal Hossain Mia to make arrangements for sending a sacrificial cow to Mayuri after contacting Mayuri’s phone number.

After making a phone call to that number, the PS came to know that Mayuri lives in the hijra village in Jamalpur Sadar upazila along with 87 other members.

He immediately conveyed the Prime Minister’s directives to the Jamalpur DC and following the instruction, Kabir handed over the cow and money for relevant activities to the hijra community.
