BNP senior leaders want to meet Khaleda Zia on Eid
Dhaka: BNP senior leaders would like to visit jailed chairperson Khaleda Zia at Dhaka Central Jail on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, set to be celebrated Wednesday.
‘Our senior leaders sent a letter to the authorities concerned seeking permission for meeting our party Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Eid day,’ said party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvion Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he further said, ‘We hope our senior leaders will get permission to meet Khaleda Zai.’
On Sunday, the party sent a letter to the concerned authorities seeking permission to allow the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and some standing committee members to meet her.
During this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr in June, the party leaders similarly sought permission to meet her in jail but were denied as well. Only some relatives of the BNP chief were allowed to meet her.
In any case, the party standing committee members along with leaders and activists will offer fateha at the mausoleum of party founder Ziaur Rahman.
OnFebruary 8, Khaleda was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Though her lawyers secured bail for her in this case, they have been unable to secure her release in the face of court orders in a number of other cases filed against her coming into force.
