Magur: Two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Routora in the district town early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Sibadul Islam Siba, 43, son of Shadat Mollah of Bhabonhati village in Sadar upazila and Jamal Mollah, 32, son of Nururnabi Mollah of Narasinghpur village in Bagherpara upazila of Jashore district, reports the UNB.

Tipped off that a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robberies on Magura- Jhenidah road, a team of police conducted a drive there around 3:00am, said Tariqul Islam, additional superintendent of Magura Police.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

‘At one stage, the duo was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot,’ Tariqul Islam said.

He said Siba was wanted in eight cases of robbery while Nururnabi in five. Their bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

A case was filed.
