Charges framed against 4 Sherpur war crime suspects

Dhaka: International Crime Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday framed four specific charges against four people for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity conducted during the 1971 Liberation War in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district.

The three-member bench of ICT led by Justice Md Shahinul Islam passed the order fixing September 30 for starting of the formal trial.

The accused are S M Aminuzzaman Faruk, Lawyer SM Akram Hossain, Emdadul Haque alias Khaja and Mokhlesur Rahman Tara. Among the four, Tara remains absconding.

The charges include- murder, mass killing, looting and torture.

Prosecutors Zeyad Al Malum and Rezia Sultana Chaman stood for the state while Abdus Subhan Tarafdar for the accused.

The investigation was begun against them on November 19, 2015.

Police arrested Faruk from Nakla on August 22, 2016, as the court issued an arrest warrant against him.

Later, arrest warrants were issued against three others on April 23 in last year.
