Satkhira: A Jatiya Party-backed union parishad chairman was gunned down by miscreants at Krishnanagar Bazar area in Kaliganj upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Mosharrof Hossain, 52, son of Krishnanagar union parishad of the upazila.

Eyewitness said six miscreants came by three motorcycles in the bazar and shot the chairman when he was sitting in front of Jubo League Office area, leaving him critically injured.

Although locals were taken to a local hospital but he died on the way to hospital, they added.

Yeasin Ali, assistant superintendent of Satkhira Police, said a group of miscreants fired several round of bullets aiming Mosharrof Hossain, leaving him dead on the spot.
