Country’s road networks being upgraded for faster economic growth: PM
Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said the government is building a strong road network across the country to advance Bangladesh economically and reduce poverty fast.
The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating the 850-metre long Gangachara Sheikh Hasina Bridge over the Teesta River at Gangachara in Rangpur district and 771-metre long Sheikh Hasina Titas Bridge over the Titas River at Bancharampur in Brahmanbaria district through video conferencing from her official residence Ganobhaban.
She said the economic condition of the mass people will get better with the improved road networks as they will have better job opportunities.
Hasina said the four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong highway will be turned into a six-lane one in the future while the Dhaka-Sylhet highway is being upgraded into a four-lane one. ‘We’ve taken steps in this regard.’
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain and LGRD Senior Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan also spoke at the programme.
