Barapukuria power plant workers threaten indefinite strike from Sept 24
Dinajpur: Workers of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant on Tuesday threatened to go on indefinite strike from September 24 if the authorities do not recruit local workers within September 23.
They also threatened to block the highway and rail line in the district, reports the UNB.
Abu Syed, general secretary of the committee on managing movement for labour rights, a platform of power plant workers, came up with the announcement at a press briefing at Barapukuria Bazar in the noon.
Abu Syed said that local workers have gained experience and also developed their skills by this time working on a temporary basis and they have the right to be appointed at the power plant.
‘But the authorities are recounting outsiders,’ he alleged.
Bangladesh Trade Union of Phulbari General unit Secretary Nur Alam Siddique, among others, was present at the press conference.
