HC to hear Shahidul Alam’s bail plea next week
Dhaka: The High Court on Wednesday fixed next week to hear the bail plea of renowned photographer and Drik Gallery managing director Shahidul Alam in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
The HC bench of Justice Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman said the hearing on the bail plea will be included in the cause list of the upcoming week, reports the UNB.
However, Shahidul’s lawyer Jyotirmoy Barua, who submitted the petition, said the HC is likely to hear the plea on Sunday.
This is Shahidul Alam’s second petition submitted before the High Court on Tuesday seeking bail in the case.
Earlier on Monday, the High Court ordered the lower court concerned to dispose off the bail petition filed by Shahidul Alam within Tuesday.
Later, Judge KM Imrul Kayes of Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court denied bail to Shahidul Alam in the case.
The bail petition was filed on August 28.
On September 4, one judge of a two-member High Court bench felt embarrassed to hear the bail petition.
Later, another bench was formed to hear the petition.
On September 5, the HC directed the authorities concerned to provide first-class division to photographer Shahidulin in jail after hearing of a writ petition.
Detectives arrested ShahidulAlam from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5 and the case was filed against him with Ramna Police Station on August 6. He was also placed on a seven-day remand in the case.
Police claimed that he spread propaganda through his Facebook account during the student movement demanding safe roads which is harmful to the state.
