Dhaka: The special makeshift court in the Old Central Jail will deliver its order on Wednesday on no-confidence applications filed by two accused in the Zia Charitable Trust Graft case.

On Monday, two accused—Ziaul Islam Munna and Monirul Islam—surrendered before the Special Judge Court-5 on expiry of their bail and filed their petitions expressing no-confidence in the judge of the special makeshift court.

Lawyers of the two accused had also said they would also file no-confidence petitions with the High Court seeking a transfer of the trial to another court.

Meanwhile, the court extended the bail of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia until Wednesday after her lawyers filed a petition seeking extension of her bail in the case.

Earlier on Monday, Khaleda’s bail was extended for one day until Tuesday in the case.

On September 20, the court extended Khaleda’s bail until September 24.

The BNP chairperson is now at the Old Central Jail, serving five years’ rigorous imprisonment as she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8 last.

On September 4, the makeshift court of Bakshibazar was shifted at the Old Dhaka Central Jail to hold the trial of Khaleda in jail.

On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
