‘Drug trader’ killed in Munshiganj ‘gunfight’

Munshiganj: A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Mirkadim in sadar upazila on early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Malek Abdul, 45, son of Shawkat Ali Bepari of Dakkhin Islampur in the district town, reports the UNB.

Being tipped off that of group of drug traders were thronged in the area, a team of RAB-11 conducted a drive in the area around 3:45 am, said Muhitul Islam, assistant director of RAB-11.

Sensing presence of the elite force, 4/5 people of the gang, opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back.

At one stage, the elite force members found Malek with bullet wounds and took him to Munshiganj General Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Malek was wanted in 11 cases filed with different police stations, said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

The RAB members also recovered one pistol, one magazine, three bullets, Tk 2500 in cash and 800 Yaba tablets from the spot.
