Dhaka: Members of law enforcement agencies have been directed to monitor all social media platforms to prevent any kind of rumor or campaign aiming to destroy communal harmony during the upcoming Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of Hindu community.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary gave the direction while addressing a meeting on law and order and security during Durga Puja at the Police Headquarters that he chaired on Wednesday afternoon.

The IGP also asked them to take immediate steps to stop any propaganda that may hurt religious sentiments of any person or group as well as to take immediate action against people responsible for it, said AIG (Media) of the Police Headquarters Sohel Rana.

He instructed the police officials to perform their duties with sincerity and professionalism so that Durga Puja is celebrated safely with religious solemnity.

The IGP also urged the leaders of the Durga Puja Udjapan committees to recruit volunteers while making idols, install close circuit cameras and fire extinguishers as well as to use hand metal detectors in Puja Mandaps.

Sayeed Tariqul Hassan, AIG (Operations) of the Police Headquarters, presented a brief regarding the overall safety measures taken in the eve of the upcoming Durgapuja in the meeting. The meeting also discussed elaborately all the aspects related to the security of Durga Puja.

The Puja Udupan Parishad leaders present at the meeting expressed satisfaction over the security measures taken on the eve of the Durga Puja.

Additional IGP (Admin) of the police headquarters Mokhlesur Rahman, other senior officials of the headquarters, chiefs of different police units, including Range DIGs, commissioners of different Metropolitan Police and SPs attended the meeting.

President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad Milon Kanti Datta and General Secretary Nirmal Kumar Chatterjee, President of Dhaka Metropolitan Sarbajanin Puja Committee Shailendra Nath Majumder and representatives of different intelligence agencies and other stakeholders were present.
