Get united to resist ‘election mockery’: B Chy
Dhaka: Jukta Front Chairman AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Saturday urged the democratic forces to get united to resist any ‘election mockery’ and restore people’s voting rights.
‘Bangladesh will face destruction while democracy will be exiled forever if the elections see engineering and mockery in the future again. So, we must carry out our struggle to establish people’s rights,’ he said.
Speaking at the council session of Muslim League, the Jukta Front chief further said, ‘Pro-democratic forces must wake up and raise their voice that we won’t accept any election of mockery. Restoring people’s voting rights should be the number one point of our struggle.’
The 9th national council of Muslim League, one of the country’s oldest parties, was held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh.
B Chowdhury, also the president of Bikolpo Dhara Bangladesh, alleged that people’s voting right was snatched through the January-5 election in 2014 where 154 MPs were elected without people’s votes.
He accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of breaching her pledge to arrange an inclusive election immediate after the Januray-5 one. ‘She said it was an election just to maintain rules, and we would soon hold an election with the participation of all parties. But she didn’t keep her words.’
B Chowdhury, also a former president, urged the leaders and activists of Muslim League to play a role in restoring people’s voting rights.
Advocate Badruddoza Suja was elected president while Kazi Abul Khair secretary general of Muslim League at the council.
