Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said she is hopeful that they will be able to bring back Rashed Chowdhury, one of the killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, now living in the USA.

‘When I met US President Donald Trump in New York I told him about the matter. He expressed interest and got that noted it down,’ she said while addressing a press conference at her official residence Ganobhaban.

The press conference was arranged to brief journalists about the outcome of her recent weeklong visit to the United States to attend the 73rd UN General Assembly.

The Prime Minister said she also informed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about it when he met her at her hotel suite. ‘So, we’re hopeful.’

Hasina said Bangladesh brought back one of the killers of Bangabandhu in the past. ‘So, we’ve appointed a lawyer, we’re working on the matter,’ she said.

About Nur Chowdhury, now in Canada, the Prime Minister said there is problem in the law of Canada. ‘A case is, however, pending with the court… so, we hope we’ll be able to bring him back, too,’ she said.

Hasina said the government is looking for the whereabouts of the rest of the absconding convicted killers of Bangabandhu. ‘I’m not sitting idle, trying to locate who is living in where, we’ll bring them back anyhow.’

She mentioned that the government has already freed the country from the curse by putting the war criminals on the trial and will do so more by bringing back the killers of Bangabandhu and executing the court verdict.
