Tangail: A total of 52 teachers of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) on Monday submitted resignations as their fellow teachers were allegedly humiliated by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders.

MBSTU Teachers Association President Dr Muhammad Shahin Uddin said the BCL leaders of the university unit on Sunday morning forced teachers to allow a Physics Department student, Ishita Biswash, for an exam though she didn’t pass in her previous semester’s exams, reports the UNB.

When the teachers tried to refrain the ruling party backed student organisation’s men from using force, the BCL leaders humiliated Physics Department Chairman Dr Anwar Hossain and teacher Mohiuddin Tasnin.

Later, an application signed by 15 teachers was submitted to the Vice-Chancellor’s office demanding justice against BCL president Sajib Talukdar, Vice-Presidents Imran Mia and Adrita Panna, and joint secretary Jabir Iqbal.

A meeting was held at VC’s office with representatives of teachers and BCL leaders in this regard.

At one stage, the BCL men came out of the meeting and assembled students from dormitories and started demonstration demanding amendment to the university ordinance.

Meanwhile, BCL president, Sajib Talukdar denied the allegation and said they requested the teachers to allow her to sit for the examination.

University registrar Dr. Mohammad Towhidul Islam said the final decision over the matter will be taken in a meeting of the regent board.
