Habiganj: A court here on Wednesday sentenced two people to death for killing a young man in 2012.

The convicts are Sakiur Chowdhury, son of Abdul Hai and Gaziur Chowdhury, son of Ramiz Mia of Shibpasha village in Ajmiriganj upazila.

The court also acquitted 13 other accused, reports the UNB.

According to the prosecution, neighbour Sakiur Chowdhury called Basir Mia, 30, son of Bodiuzzaman, over mobile phone in the night of June 9, 2013 and since then he reportedly went missing.

Following this incident, victim’s elder brother Jishu Mia filed a case against 12 people with Ajmiriganj Police Station on June 24.

Later, police arrested Sakiur on the same day and based on his confession, recovered Basir’ body from a field near Nairakhara Beel where he was buried after killing.

As a sequel of previous enmity, they killed Basir Mia, he said.

Police, however, submitted the charge sheet on December 15, 20013. Gaziur went hiding after the killing.

After examining records and witnesses, Habiganj Additional District and Session Judge SM Nazim Reza handed down the verdict.
