Mainul Hosein faces another arrest warrant
Cox’s Bazar: A court here on Tuesday issued a warrant for the arrest of Barrister Mainul Hosein in a case for hurling abusive words at journalist Masuda Bhatti in a television talk-show on October 16.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah passed the order after Advocate Fakhrul Islam filed the case in the afternoon, reports the UNB.
With this, seven cases have so far been filed - one each in Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka, Jamalpur, Cumilla, Rangpur, Brahmanbaria and Bhola—against Barrister Mainul Hosein for his choice of abusive words.
Earlier on Monday night, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested the former caretaker government adviser from the capital in the defamation case filed in Rangpur district.
On Tuesday morning, he was sent to jail by a Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
During the talk-show ‘Ekattorer Journal’ on private TV channel Ekattor TV, Masuda Bhatti asked Mainul, ‘You say that you in the Jatiya Oikyafront as a citizen of the country but in social networking sites, many people are saying that you’re there as a representative of Jamaat.’
Angered by the comment, Mainul said, ‘I’m thanking you for your audacity and I want to believe you as ‘characterless’. There’s no question about Jamaat link’s with me and what question you have asked is embarrassing for me.’
