Dhaka: Three suspected drug traders and an alleged robber were killed in separate incidents of reported gunfights in Kushtia and Mymensingh districts early Wednesday. In Kushtia, two suspected drug traders were killed in separate incidents of reported gunfights between two groups of criminals in Sadar and Doulatpur upazilas on early Wednesday, reports the UNB.

Acting on secret information that two groups of ‘drug peddlers’ were exchanging bullets, a team of police went to Kaburhat Madrasha Para in Sadar upazila around 2 am, said Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire to police, forcing them to fire back in self-defence. Later, police recovered an unidentified man, injured with bullets and took him to Kushita General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. One foreign pistol and 800 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot, the OC added. In another incident, a team of police conducted a drive at Muslimnagar Field in Daulatpur upazila where a group of criminals were exchanging bullets, said Shah Dara, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station. The criminals managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers. Later, police recovered the body of Madan, 45, son of Rifaz Uddin of Jamal village in the upazila, and a listed drug trader. Madan was wanted in a number of cases. Police also recovered one pistol, three bullets, 900 pieces of Yaba tablets and 30 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot.

In Mymensingh, suspected robber Anu Hossain, 30 of Angargara village in Bhaluka upazila, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Kadigar in Bhaluka upazila early Wednesday.

Tipped off, a team of police went to the spot around 2 am, said Firoz Talukdar, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Police station.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting police to fire back in self-defence.

Later, police recovered the body of Anu, wanted in 15 cases, from the spot and recovered one pistol, five bullet shells and some sharp weapons from the spot.
