Kishoreganj: A court here on Thursday sentenced a person to death and six people to life imprisonment for killing a man in Tarail upazila in 2008.

The condemned convicted is Zillu Miah while the lifers are Towfiq Miah, Badal Miah, Ishaque Miah, Sinu Miah and Ali Akbar, reports the UNB.

According to the prosecution, Riaz Uddin, a resident of Kathalia Kanda village of the upazila, was hacked to death on June 16, 2008 over a previous enmity.

Later, victim’s brother Sharif Uddin filed a case with Tarail Police Station accusing 15 people.

After examining all the records and witnesses, Kishoreganj Additional Session’s Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim handed down the verdict acquitting eight people.
