Sylhet: Police arrested a visiting expatriate for raping a domestic servant from his residence at Goalbazar in Osmani Nagar upazila on Monday.  

The arrestee was identified as Nunu Mia, 60, son of Rahim Uddin of Brahman village of the upazila, and a resident of the United Kingdom. 

Moinuddin, officer-in-charge of Osmani Nagar Police Station, said police in a drive arrested Nunu Mia and produced him before the court, after which the court sent him to jail. 

According to the case statement, the victim worked at Nunu Mia's house for a monthly salary of Tk 4,000. He used to rape her promising to marry her. 

At one stage, the victim became pregnant and was forced to abort the baby, it said.
