Jhenaidah: A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife in Sadar upazila in 2013.

The convict is Riyad Munshi, son of Suleman Munshi of Sonadah village in Sadar upazila.

The court also fined him Tk 20,000.

According to the prosecution, Riyad used to torture his wife Rina Khatun, daughter of Rashid Miah, since their marriage over dowry. Riyad strangulated her to death on November 23, 2013 and staged the incident as a suicide.

However, the post-mortem report unveiled that it was an incident of murder.

As Rina’s family members did not file any case against Riyad out of fear, police themselves filed a murder case and submitted a chargesheet on November 19, 2018.

After examining all the records and witnesses, Judge additional sessions’ judge court-1 of the district Golam Azam handed down the verdict.
