Dhaka: Newly appointed Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Winnie Estrup Petersen on Tuesday said Myanmar should take back their Rohingya nationals living in Bangladesh.

‘Myanmar should take back the Rohingyas,’ Petersen said when she met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office.

PM’s Press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting. He said the Prime Minister also put emphasis on the repatriation of over one million Myanmar Rohingyas living in Bangladesh, reports the UNB.

Sheikh Hasina said her government is developing an island in Noakhali district for the temporary shelter of the Rohingyas.

The Danish Ambassador said her country will continue to work with Bangladesh for its development.  Praising the development of Bangladesh in women empowerment, she said her country wants to infuse new dynamism into bilateral cooperation between the countries.

Sheikh Hasina said the development activities of her government have become visible across the country due to its continuation for two terms.

She mentioned that the government has ensured food security, free textbook distribution up to class nine and various inputs for better agricultural production.

Hasina said now women are working in every sector of the country and they are doing very well.  She also said the government wants to flourish democracy in the country as her party always fought for establishing it.
