Authorities move to protect Ramna Park
Dhaka: Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain on Tuesday said no programme other than Pahela Baishakh celebrations will be allowed in Ramna Park, reported UNB
‘We won’t give permission for any function at Ramna Park. We’ll have to protect the beauty and tradition of the park,’ he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at Krishibid Institution in the city.
Paribeshbid Nagorik Somaj arranged the discussion titled ‘Ramna Park: Protection of beauty, utility and tradition’.
The minister also sought cooperation from all in this regard.
Mosharraf Hossain said unnecessary and fruit trees will be felled in order to protect the century-old tree and beauty of the park.
A committee will be formed comprising environmentalists and experts for deciding which trees will be cut down, he said.
Presided over by Prof Muntasir Mamun, the meeting was addressed, among others, by environmentalist Dwijen Sharma, architect Tughlaq Azad, Housing and Public Works Secretary Mohammad Muin Uddin Abdullah and Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (Bapa) General Secretary Dr Abdul Matin.
