Dhaka: Hours after the Election Commission’s clearance, the Home Ministry on Sunday appointed Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Harun-Ur-Rashid as the Superintendent of Police of Narayanganj district.

The EC in a letter gave ‘no objection’ to a proposal of the Public Security Division under the ministry for posting ex-Gazipur SP Harun to Narayanganj, reports the UNB.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Commission asked the Public Security Division to withdraw Narayanganj SP Anisur Rahman following a demand from the BNP-led 20 party alliance.

The ministry, however, attached Anisur Rahman with the Police Headquarters as Assistant Inspector General (AIG).

On November 25, the 20-party alliance placed a written demand for removal of the Narayanganj SP saying they are in doubt whether he would discharge the election duty neutrally as his wife Fatema Tuzzahura is a Member of Parliament from the reserved seat.
