5 injured in pre-election violence in Magura
Magura: Five Awami League men were injured as a group of BNP men allegedly attacked at Simakhali Bazar in Shalikha upazila on Tuesday evening.
Locals said a group of BNP men suddenly swooped on AL men and vandalised furniture around 6:30 pm while they were discussing their election activities, leaving five injured, reports the UB.
On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control, said Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station.
Police started drive to arrest the attackers, he said adding a case would be filed in this connection.
In other incidents, some AL men attacked and vandalised the chair and tables in two BNP offices at Binodpur Bazar and Khalia Bazar in Mohammadpur upazila and locked these offices, said Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station.
Additional police were deployed in and around the spots to prevent any further unwanted situation, the OC added.
