Sylhet: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said the Sylhet-Dhaka highway will be elevated into a four-lane one if Awami League comes to power through the forthcoming general election billed for December 30.

She made the promise while addressing an election campaign rally at the Govt Alia Madrasah ground here, reports the UNB.

The Prime Minister also said the Sylhet city will be provided with all the facilities of a divisional city.

She said people’s welfare is ensured whenever Awami League is in power as the party was founded by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She also promised to introduce 5G mobile network in the country.

Sheikh Hasina said the BNP-Jamaat established a reign of terror and corruption after coming to power in 2001. ‘Bangladesh was known as a corrupt country during the BNP regime.’

She also said Bangladesh’s dignity achieved through the War of Liberation was ruined after 1975.

The Prime Minister said the Awami League arranged employment facilities in Sylhet division and it is working to build Bangladesh as a developed country.

She also said every house of the country will come under the electricity coverage by 2021.

The Prime Minister urged people to cast their votes for Awami League and Grand Alliance in all the constituencies in Sylhet divisions to continue the development pace.

She also introduced the AL and Grand Alliance candidates in all the constituencies of four districts—Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj and Habiganj—under Sylhet divisions before the audience.
