Polls violence intensity higher this time: Home minister
Dhaka: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Saturday said the intensity of election violence is slightly higher this time compared to previous years.
‘A vested group has been conspiring to thwart the election after being rejected by people,’ he said, replying to a question after attending a programme marking Victory Day at Ideal College in Farmgate area, reports the UNB.
‘They (vested quarters) are launching attacks in different areas. But law enforcement agencies are ready to tackle them,’ Asaduzzaman said.
Bangladesh is scheduled to go to polls on December 30. There have been reports of attacks on the campaigns, mostly of BNP candidates, in parts of the country.
Replying to another question, Minister Asaduzzaman said the government had been investigating incidents of several deputy commissioners receiving death threats.
