Cultural programme to be held on boat protesting canal grabbing
Dhaka: A voluntary organisation is going to hold a unique cultural programme and a mass rally in the city on Saturday on a boat in the River Buriganga in protest against canal grabbing.
Poribesh Bachao Andolon (Poba) will arrange the programmes at the connecting point of Buriganga-Shobatta Khal, opposite to Sadarghat, at 11:00am, reports UNB.
Popular folk singer Abdul Kuddus Boyati will perform ‘protest songs’ at the cultural programme on a boat on the Buriganga enabling people to enjoy that from its both banks.
Poba coordinator Atiq Morshed said the authorities concerned had reclaimed Shobatta Khal, an old canal of Keraniganj on the southwest side of Dhaka city, a few days ago, but influential people grabbed it again.
‘We’re going to organise the programmes to inspire raise people to raise their voice against canal grabbers on one hand and pressurise the authorities concerned to reclaim the canal again and take legal action against the grabbers on the other,’ he added.
