Noakahli gang rape: AL leader Ruhul Amin expelled from party
Noakhali: Local Awami League leader Ruhul Amin has been expelled from the ruling party for his alleged involvement in the gang rape of a woman at Char Bagya village in Subarnachar Upazila.
Amin was the party’s upazila unit publicity affairs secretary and a former union council member, reports the UNB.
The decision to expel him was taken at an emergency meeting on Friday night, said AL’s Subarnachar Upazila unit President Omar Faruk.
It was alleged that Amin’s followers gang-raped a woman at his behest on the night of the general election on December 30. Police have arrested seven people, including Amin.
The victim’s husband said a group of men had stormed their house in the early hours of Monday and tied up all the family members except his wife. They took her outside at gunpoint and violated her in turns.
The men also threatened to kill them if they disclosed the incident to anyone, he said.
The victim was hospitalised the next day with the help of neighbours. A case was later filed against nine people over the incident.
