AL leader among 2 held for torturing youth in Jhenidah

Jhenidah: Police on early Saturday arrested two people including a local Awami League Leader for torturing a young man by hanging him with a tree at Sreepur village in Harinakundo upazila on December 28.
The arrestees are Shreepur union AL former general secretary Shahinur Rahman Tuhin and Kazi Babul of the village.
The boy Md Rana, 25, son of Omar Ali of the village was tortured on charges of stealing a television set from Shreepur union Awami League office on December 27, 2018.
On the next day, Tuhin brought Rana to the office and tortured him by hanging him from a jackfruit tree on charge of stealing the television set.
Soon after the incident, a video footage of the torture incident went viral on social media.
Police arrested the duo around 1:30 am Friday after the victim’s father Omar Ali filed a case with Harinakundo Police Station, said Tarek Al Mehedi, additional superintendent of Jhenaidah police.
