People destroying Sundarbans will face special tribunal: Anu Mohammad

Dhaka: Member secretary of the National Committee to Protect Oil-Gas, Power, Port and Mineral Resources (Oil-Gas Committee) on Friday observed that those who are destroying the Sundarbans will face trial before a special tribunal like the tribunal on war crimes.
‘Surely these anti-nation people will be put on trial for their misdeeds even after a long time like the war criminals who are now facing trail after 40 years’, he said while addressing a rally in front of Jatiya Press Club.
Prof Anu Mohammad alleged that the government has been implementing the Rampal coal-fired power plant in order to protect the interest of foreign forces.
‘But this project will ultimately make Bangladesh unprotected from natural calamities. The whole country will suffer from this project as it will emit huge pollution and destroy the Sundarbans’, he added.
The Oil-Gas Committee member secretary also alleged that the government is awarding contracts for power plants and gas blocks in the Bay to foreign companies without tender to help plundering huge assets and money of the country.
Through the rally, the Oil-Gas Committee urged the people to make its Sundarbans Long March, scheduled on March 10-15, a success.
