‘Main accused’ of Xulhaz-Tanoy murders held
Dhaka: Police on Tuesday night arrested the main suspect from Tongi in Gazipur district in a case filed over the murders of LGBT magazine editor Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Tanoy in 2016.
Tipped off, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a drive in the area and arrested the accused in the night, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman, reports the UNB.
However, police did not disclose the identity of the arrestee immediately.
Xulhaz Mannan, editor of LGBT magazine Roopbaan, and his friend Mahbub Tanoy, an activist of theatre group Loknatya Dal, were hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants at an apartment in the capital’s Kalabagan area on 25 April, 2016.
