PM inaugurates development activities of 10 economic zones

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday formally inaugurated the development activities of ten economic zones at a function at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
The development activities of ten economic zones began aiming to boost both foreign and domestic investment in the country, reports local news agency.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu and Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal addressed the function as the special guests, while Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain joined the videoconferencing from Mirsarai Economic Zone, Chittagong.
With the setting up of economic zones, she said, the 'living standard' of the people would be further developed as those will generate employment, alleviate poverty and infuse dynamism into the economy.
Sheikh Hasina said: ‘I would like to urge local people to extend cooperation so that the investors could build the (economic) zones in a faster pace and 'beautiful atmosphere', and thus would help establish a hunger and poverty-free prosperous Bangladesh.’
The economic zones are—Mirersarai Economic Zone, Sabrang Tourism Park, Srihatta Economic Zone, Mongla Economic Zone, AK Khan Economic Zone, Abdul Monem Economic Zone, Meghna Economic Zone, Meghna Industrial Economic Zone, Bay Economic Zone and Amra Economic Zone.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal were, among others, present at the function.
