Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Tajul Islam on Thursday said the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority have been swamped with irregularities and that will not be allowed to go on.

‘Dhaka and Chittagong WASA have gone through extreme negligence and mismanagement,’ he told a meeting attended by senior LGRD and WASA officials at his Karwanbazar office in Dhaka, reports the UNB.

‘This situation won’t be allowed to continue anymore,’ Tajul said, warning them that the consequences ‘will not be good’ if they did not amend their ways.

The minister said the government’s goal is to take Bangladesh to a new height. ‘We won’t tolerate any wrongdoing and allow mismanagement to hamper our growth,’ he added.

‘Ensuring drinking water for all is a big challenge,’ he noted adding, ‘We want to serve everyone equally.’

Tajul directed WASA to ensure the use of technology to stop meter tampering, fix the drainage system, and provide the bills properly.

‘Everyone will have to work together to solve problems and achieve the desired goal,’ the LGRD minister said.
