Kushtia: A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Kanelpara in Sadar upazila early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman Hubba, 50, son of Siraj Malitha, reports the UNB.

Monir Hossain, a sub-inspector at Kushtia Model Police Station, said  a police team conducted the drive around 3:00pm on information that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on the police, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

The gunfight left Habibur injured with bullets.

Later, the injured was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered eight pieces of Yaba pill, one foreign pistol, two bullet shells and two magazines from the spot.
