Rajshahi: A man, who fell seriously ill after reportedly taking meal poisoned by his wife on Saturday, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday.

The deceased is Shafikul Islam, 45, son of Beraj Uddin of Bashail village of Durgapur upazila.

Police and family members said Munjuwara Begum, wife of Shafikul Islam, had an extra-marital affair with her neighbor Aslam Uddin, son of late Edu Mia of the village, for two years.

Shafiqul used to quarrel with his wife over the issue.

On Saturday night, Munjuwara allegedly mixed toxin with Shofikul’s meal.

Shafikul fell sick seriously after taking the foods.

Later, family members took him to RMCH early Sunday where he died in the afternoon.

Police in a drive arrested Munjuwara in connection with her husband’s death, but her said lover Aslam went into hiding after the incident.

Durgapur police officer-in-charge Parimal Kumar Chakrabarty said police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.

The victim’s father filed a case against Munjuwara and Aslam with the police station.
