Preserve true history of Liberation War: President
Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid on Monday emphasised the preservation of true history of the Liberation War for the present and future generations.
“An anti-liberation force is trying to distort the history whenever it gets an opportunity. This force attempted to change the history of our struggle for freedom and the Liberation War on many occasions,” the President said at the launching of a book at Bangabhaban.
“Although their attempts succeeded briefly, they were eventually defeated,” President Hamid said adding, “… nobody can change history. Those who try to do so are thrown into the dustbin of history.”
Hamid, a freedom fighter himself, said: “It’s our sacred duty to ensure that the current and future generations can know about the true history of our Liberation War.”
Speaking at the launch of the book ‘1971: Protirodh Sangram Bijoy’ written by his Military Secretary Major General Sarwar Hossain, the President said it was “a very important research work.”
“It’s a historical document,” President Hamid said. “Details from the beginning of the Liberation War to the final victory have been covered in it.”
The book discusses in details the perspective and background of the Liberation War, military strength, initial resistance, the sectors and sector commanders.
It also covers the activities of other irregular forces, their contribution, war strategy, successes, and the role of the media during the war, among others.
Maj Gen Sarwar’s book presents various aspects of the Liberation War, and apart from conventional warfare, it also presents the unconventional and guerilla warfare with prominence.
President Hamid lamented the lack of research-based books on the Liberation War and the struggle for freedom and hoped researchers, journalists, writers, and intellectuals would continue their research works.
“This will help the [future] generations know the true history of War of Independence and enrich themselves with the spirit of Liberation War,” he said. “This will also benefit the country and the nation. I hope the spirit of War of Independence spreads everywhere.”
