‘Drug trader’ killed in Joypurhat ‘gunfight’
Joypurhat: A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Keshabpur in Panchbibi upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Sohel Rana, 42, son of Solaiman Sardar of Uttar Gopalpur village in the upazila, reports the UNB.
Tipped off, a team of RAB conducted a drive in the area around 2:30am, assistant superintendent of police Azmal Hossain, camp commander of RAB-5.
Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing RAB members to fire back in self-defence.
At one stage, Sohel caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. Two RAB men sustained injuries during the gunfight.
A pistol, bullets, a magazine, three SIM cards, two mobile phone sets and 60 bottles of phensidyl were recovered from the spot.
Sohel was wanted in 8/10 cases, said RAB official.
