Rangamati: A private tutor allegedly strangled a class three student to death after his failed rape attempt at Raikhali Purbakodala Borokhola Para in Kaptai upazila on Sunday.

Police arrested private tutor Bachingmong Marma, 40, after local people caught him red-handed on Saturday night while trying to dump the body in a roadside ditch in the dead of night, reports the UNB.

Ashraf Uddin, in-charge of Chandraghona Police Station, said Bachingmong used to teach five children in the morning at his home.

On Saturday, Bachingmong asked the victim to stay more in house while asked the other students to leave the place for going to school.

Failing to trace the girl, her parents informed the matter to police.

During interrogation, Bachingmong confessed to his guilt and said he strangled the girl to death after failing to violate her. Later, he kept the body on the ceiling of his house in a sack, said police.

Police sent the body to a local hospital morgue and a case was filed in this connection.
