Magura: Bangladesh Red Crescent Society chairman Muhammad Serajul Akbar, also a lawmaker from Magura-1 constituency, died of cardiac arrest on Monday aged 75.

He breathed his last in an ambulance on the way to the capital at about 8:30pm, said Adv Ali Akhter Dukhu, younger brother of the MP.

Serajul, also the president of district Awami League, complained of chest pain at his district town residence at about 5:00pm. Later, he, himself a doctor, asked for arranging an ambulance to shift him to the capital.

He, however, died on the way to the capital, said Dukhu.

Serajul, who was elected district AL president only on Sunday, left behind wife, two daughters and a host of relatives, colleagues, friends and admirers to mourn his death.

He was elected MP from the constituency in 2002, 2008 and 2014 on AL ticket.

He will be laid to rest at his family graveyard at Hazipur village in Sadar upazila on Tuesday, said his brother.
