Thakurgaon shooting: Home minister promises actions ‘as per law’

Dhaka: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday said the government would take actions according to the law over the Thakurgaon incident where three people were killed during a clash with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
‘Nobody is above the law,’ he said at the 24th founding anniversary programme of Bangladesh Coast Guard in the city, reports the UNB.
Three people were killed and at least dozen others were injured when BGB troopers opened fire during a clash on Tuesday morning. BGB claimed its members were forced to open fire in self-defence after cattle smugglers attacked them.
A three-member investigation committee was formed by the district administration later at night.
However, the minister declined to comment when journalists asked if his ministry was looking into the incident.
Meanwhile, at the Coast Guard programme, Asaduzzaman lauded the force.
He said the government had taken small-, medium- and long-term plans for the modernisation of the force and to strengthen its capabilities.
