Chattogram: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) of India here on Thursday underscored the need for maintaining cordial relations along the border.

The remarks were made at a joint press conference on the last day of a four-day conference between the border forces of the two countries at North-Eastern region headquarters of BGB in Halishahar, reports the UNB.

There was an open discussion on different issues, including stopping border killing and firing, taking effective steps to stop drugs and arms smuggling, trafficking of children and women, constructing establishments within 150 yards of the zero line and following the border agreements properly, at the conference.

Responding to a query about water-sharing of the Feni River, Brigadier General Md Amirul Islam Shikder of BGB said the Joint River Commission is working on the issue.

He also said, ‘India is our friendly country. We always work maintaining the tradition and keeping the bondage of brotherhood intact.’

KC Mahali, inspector general of Mizoram and Cachar Frontier BSF, said BSF has taken a tough stance to stop all types of smuggling and criminal activities along the border.
