Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Thursday said no chemical godown will be allowed in the old part of the Capital Dhaka.

‘The ongoing drive for the eviction of chemical and flammable substance godowns will continue…no chemical godown would be allowed here,’ the DSCC mayor said after concluding the rescue operation in the city’s Chawkbazar fire incident this afternoon.

He said: ‘Tough measures will be taken to remove chemical godowns from the Old Dhaka’, reports the BSS.

Noting that a committee has been formed to probe the devastating fire incident that broke out in Chawkbazar area last night, Khokon said after getting the probe report, strict action will be taken against the people responsible for the fire incident.

The Chawkbazar fire incident took place at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday night that claimed 81lives, including children and women, so far.
